![]() ![]() It did a great job of teaching you that no matter how you feel about things in other games, killing orcs by the barrel full is completely reasonable in this game.Įnjoying the game. It was a good, horrible, tragedy, but I didn't find it too hard to watch. I wasn't even clear on what happened to the son at first, since it was done very subtlely and off camera (although the results were on full display). Not from specific spoiler knowledge, but from the intro itself being pretty clear where it was going. Oddly I had no problem with the opening sequence. Arrow time is a great addition, and the first time I parried two attacks at once was pretty awesome when Elf guy stepped in to help out a bit. I still have a lot of progress to make before I can fully judge of course. The comments from orcs you've repeatedly bested really add to the continuity and enjoyment and personal involvement.Ĭombat is good, although it feels slightly less good than Batman in some ways. I'm also killing captains semi-regularly now too though, so the ranks are getting thinned and new, weaker captains are standing up. I still die semi-regularly for various reasons, so the captains are climbing. That really put the pressure on not to die or my opponents would become too powerful to handle. Man, I died once early (not much happened), then didn't die again for a long time, at which point more than half the captains were either promoted, increased in power or both. Knowing this is right before Gollum gets captured and tortured into giving up the location of the Ring in the Shire really feels like you're seeing a part of the story hinted at but not told before. Hearing an orc talking about "that funny little creature skulking around in the shadows" is awesome. I found the gollum storyline a bit heavy handed in its "this is the guy from LotR, no really, he is" but the oblique references to all things LotR are awesome. Not a complaint, just an observation about how much I enjoy tracking down intel targets and doing white missions. ![]() I had all the tier 1 skills + 3 extra points before tier 2 opened up for me. Without power or main mission skills, I couldn't spend any points on tier 2 skills. ![]() In fact I managed to skill cap myself by not doing any main missions for too long, or hunting captains. I could run around doing optional side missions all day. That's just the nature of analog sticks, but still annoying. I know I could get almost twice as many shots off during focus with a mouse than I can with the gamepad. I am (only slightly) disappointed with arrow time with the gamepad. I think this is because the gamepad tends to be less precise. I've noticed that games that require or are designed for gamepad control tend to be more intuitive (I mean the app being intuitive about what I'm trying to accomplish) than games designed for PC only (i.e. Other games, notably Arkham Asylum handle this much better). the context animations of taking cover around corners) or just sticks to an object instead of sliding around it (if I'm at the edge of a box, and I'm partially or mostly past it, and I push the joystick forward, the game should be able to figure out that I want to go past the box, not stick me in place because 1/2 of my right leg is still behind the box. I'm constantly getting stuck on objects, either because my guy decides to be stealthy in full view of orcs (i.e. ![]() Mechanically, the controls/movement are less refined than Arkham Asylum, which I have to admit I find disappointing. I'd say the meta-game (missions/war chiefs/nemesis system) are what makes this game special, not to mention the excellent tie-ins to the LotR story. I can't remember the last time (even one more turn type games) that have had me hooked long past my intended quiting time. Finished Arkham Asylum, hummed and hawed for a few days, then pulled the trigger on the Brazillian retailer, which worked flawlessly using paypal (trying to use a CC directly was a mess I couldn't figure out). ![]()
